Reiki

Reiki is non-invasive and is used holistically to restore balance and well being.

The Japanese characters making up the word “Reiki” (ray-key) are usually translated in the West as meaning “universal life energy”. Reiki, the west is seen as a complementary therapy, however, its founder Mikao Usui developed Reiki as a tool for self healing, self development which includes practicing mediation, mindfulness and compassion.

What can you expect?

young caucasian woman lying down receiving head massageReiki like Reflexology is an easy treatment to receive and at most you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and perhaps a belt for comfort.

At the first treatment, which is longer that subsequent treatments, a medical history will be taken and you will be talked through the treatment.

Once you are settled on the treatment couch, the therapist will rest their hand on you or just above you in a series of non-intrusive hand positions. You may feel heat or tingling from the therapists hands. The general experience should be relaxing.

After the treatment the therapist will discuss the session and how you felt.

How will you feel after the treatment?

Most people feel an improved sense of well being and experience a sense of deep relaxation.  Sometimes clients have experienced a mild headache, feeling tired, a few have experienced emotional up and downs following their treatment. These reactions should pass within 24-48hrs and are a normal part of the healing process.

How many treatments should you have?

Reiki effects build up cumulatively and tends to gather momentum.  Generally four to six sessions at weekly intervals is a good way to get the best and long lasting benefit of Reiki without the need for regular top–up sessions. Many clients choose to come back for top-up sessions because the treatments feel so relaxing!
